See attached file(s) Our current dental system is failing to serve an astounding number of Medicaid children resulting in high rates of untreated serious oral health problems. This comment reviewed the public health data for Medicaid children and considered the differences between dentistry and medicine to reveal limitations on the dental industry’s ability to improve access to these children within the current regulatory scheme. Amending the referral service safe harbor to allow per patient fees in dentistry will facilitate third parties to not only refer patients (i.e. by phone or Internet), but to actually assist young patients and their families to access the important care that too many children are currently lacking.
