Public Housing Authorities are often requested to sell PHA property that is vacant land to other public entities, non-profit organizations, schools and other community agencies. Often times the proposed use complements a housing or neighborhood improvement purpose. Permission to be able to sell the property directly to such entities would be very beneficial. A shorter process perhaps based upon a simple independent appraisal and a short justication to a field office would greatly expedite projects for the community's common good. This would eliminate speculative landlords buying vacant land or obsolete properties that maybe suitable for a non-profit sponsored home, school facility, etc. Such efforts should be consistent with local code and community development plans and standards.
