TODAY, I READ AN ARTICLE IN THE ORLANDO SENTINEL REFERRING TO THE INCLUSION OF FIREFIGHTERS AND AND EMTS TO THE "GOOD NEIGHBOR NEXT DOOR" HOME SALES PROGRAM. ALTHOUGH I AM EXCITED TO READ THAT FIRST RESPONDERS ARE TO BE INCLUDE, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY MUST BE WITH A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. MY SON, CHRISTOPHER CANFORA IS A CERTIFIED PARAMEDIC WORKING FOR AN AMBULANCE SERVICE, RURAL METRO,IN ORLANDO FLORIDA. CHRIS HAS WORKED AS A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER FOR OVER 15 YEARS, VOLUNTEERED DURING THE VICIOUS WILDFIRES IN THE 90'S AND ALWAYS CARRIES EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT WITH HIM TO BE READY FOR ANY CONTINGENCY. CHRIS LIVES IN VOLUSIA COUNTY TO BE CLOSE TO HIS SON BECAUSE HIS EX WIFE LIVES IN VOLUSIA COUNTY AND SHARES CUSTODY OF MY GRANDSON. MY SON COULD USE SOME ASSISTANCE TO BUY A HOME. BUT ACCORDING TO THE PROPOSED RULES FOR THIS PROGRAM, HE WOULD NOT QUALIFY. HE DOES NOT LIVE IN THE COUNTY HE SERVES AND HE DOES NOT WORK FOR A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. MY SON SAVES LIVES ON A DAILY BASIS. DURING THE HURRICANES OF 2004, HE WAS THE FIRST TO SUGGEST THAT EVERY AMBULANCE CARRY A CHAIN SAW SO THAT EACH AMBULANCE TEAM WOULD BE ABLE TO GET TO VICTIMS. PLEASE CONSIDER INCLUDING ALL EMTS AND PARAMEDICS. THEY ALL SAVE LIVES.
