I am responding personally, but with 26 years in the mortgage and banking industry. There is no need to expand the HUD mortgage availability to Farm Credit-thus opening the program to more possible misuse, guaranty issues, etc., when there are PLENTY of community banks willing and with availability to make mortgages in rural areas. Ther eis lack of good demand, NOT lack of lending capacity. The government wants baks to lend their capital, yet is looking at taking potential loans away from teh community banks which are educated and designed to serve these needs. Let Farm Credit stay focused on what they do best and were purposed to do,and let banks do what they do best. If HUD wants to change their guidelines for rural lending-i.e., larger acreage, etc., fine. Support the community bank system which needs to deploy liquidity and have every opportunity to lend to individuals, small businesses, adn thus creat jobs.
