Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting lead-safe and healthy homes for children and families in Omaha. We strongly support the SHHIP program as we have seen incredible results from braiding health, safety, construction and energy efficiency programs on the ground in Omaha. Here in 30% of cases, the local Weatherization program must turn down qualified clients as a result of issues like too much clutter or chipping and peeling lead-based paint in the home. These are issues that can easily be solved by partnering agencies so that the energy efficiency work can be conducted. By working together, nonprofits and government agencies can effectively reduce costs and the burden on families. Providing incentives for groups to work together will be an effective measure and groups engaged in comprehensive, holistic service provision should be rewarded for being smart and innovative.
