Please consider adding "smoke-free environment" to the criteria to be a healthy home. Secondhand smoke is a class A carcinogen that causes death and disease to thousands of Americans each year. Those living in multi-unit housing are unable to protect themselves from drifting secondhand smoke unless the building owner adopts a smoke-free policy. While there are many programs such as our organization's Live Smoke Free program that are working with landlords to adopt these policies, more ways are needed to encourage landlords and building developers to make multi-unit housing smoke free.
