I am a commercial pilot with several type ratings and over 5,000 hours of experience. I support the EAA/AOPA medical exception request wholeheartedly. I have been flying for more than thirty years and have seen no evidence to support the medical requirement for third class as it relates to the recreational flyer. I no longer wish to fly for any reason other than recreation and think that the proposed changes will promote safety in that area of aviation. The current system is unnecessarily complex and costly to the government and to pilots. The proposed changes would surely stimulate aviation activity bringing new jobs, purchasing, and safety to our aviation activities. I am able to obtain a medical but I see improved safety through the education course requirement for self appraisal. The changes would be a cost savings and stimulus to my flying for sure. Thank you for your consideration.
