On page 10, the text mentions that smoothing for the missing mortality rates in
the base table uses a method of increasing fractions. This method uses a
denominator of 55 except for female annuitant rates smoothed between the ages of
47 and 49, which uses a denominator of 10.
This is fine.
Then on page 12, the text indicates that the projected transition rates are
?smoothed using the same technique as that used for constructing the base tables.?
However, the 2008 projected Female annuitant rates use a denominator of 21, not 10.
For example, the following method verifies the Female Annuitant rate at age 45
in 2008:
.000727 * (.001812 - .000727) * (1 / 21) = .000779
If this is correct, you may want to clarify this at the end of the 1st paragraph
on page 12 to read:
? . . . smoothed using the same technique as that used for the constructing the
base tables (note that a denominator of 21 is used for smoothing the projected
female annuitant rates between the ages of 45 and 49).?
