I have no problem with requiring preparers to use a PTIN but I strenuously object to having to pay a fee to obtain or renew one. I obtained my PTIN years ago because I didn't wan't my SSN floating around. Now you want to make me pay for something that you suggested in the first place. I am currently a CTEC preparer and have no problem with registering preparers and requiring testing to determine a minimum level of competency. But considering what we pay for courses and insurance, I am concerned about addition fees.
