I believe the IRS does not need to fingerprint CPA's specifically as the requirements to keep our licenses is that we keep our noses clean and have not been convicted of any felonies. Nobody up to this time has my fingerprints, and I don't believe anyone, including the IRS needs them. I fulfill all my requirements for my CPA license which basically requires me to be incident free or I will lose my license which I have worked hard to get and keep with 120 hours of CPE every 3 years with a minimum of 20 in any one year and a 4 hour Ethics CPE requirement every 2 years in my licensure state. I'm sorry but requiring CPA's to furnish their fingerprints in order to be able to prepare and file income tax returns for our clients is ludicrous considering the requirements that we have to have and maintain to keep our licenses. I can't answer for attorneys or enrolled agents as I don't know their registering and CPE requirements.
