"Really?" is a question I ask my 5th graders as they try to explain a ludricrous remark. Not to consider charter school teacher to be governmental employees is a "really?" type of statement. My school is supported by local and state taxes of which I recieve my pay, little as it is. Does that not make up government employees? What is the thinking, if any? If my pension is retracted, I request all monies deposited plus any additional money earned off the interest. The state and federal government dictate my curriculum and end of grade testing standards. If I have to follow the rules, am I not an employee? What is next, my healthcare? I will not allow my daughters to enter into a career so unforgiving, underpaid, and unrewarding. If I enjoy my position, it is because I love children. Teachers are the lowest paid and underappreciated professional who are responsible for educating and raising the spectrum of humanity, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Please, encourage future generations of intelligent people to shun teaching for employment that is valued by "the powers that be" and receive what is rightfully theirs. Take from my future what little my government deems as payment for my time, enegry, money and education. As for me, I have resigned to work past retirement just to make ends meet. Wonder, Treasury, what do you consider government employees? and are you employees who are paid by the taxes of the people? Really? Really? I may consider flying my American flag upside down to state that the U.S. is in distress with the potential to lose its greatest treasure, a well educated public. To make the change would be detrimental to any citizen of the U.S. Really?
