Losing all of the evening research hours does a disservice to those who cannot
visit the Archives facilities during typical work-day hours. It also does a disservice
to those of us who travel significant distances to use the facilities of the National
Archives, in that we are called upon to expend money for travel and
accomodations, and then would not be able to make use of the Archives at all in
any evening. As one who uses both daytime and evening hours for research, I
know that much is accomplished during the evening, particularly in terms of copier
time, that cannot be completed during busy daytime periods.
As a Certified Genealogist, who has attended the NARA co-sponsored National
Institute on Genealogical Research, I am sadly disappointed that the agency
proposes to reduce its availability to researchers and historians on Saturdays and
during evening hours. The proposed rule change is a disservice to NARA's most
loyal and supportive patrons.
