Speed limiters have little if any effect on safety.Safety of drivers cannot be regulated thru mechanical means-it must be taught and ingrained into the drivers operating procedures. All that speed limiters accomplish is to cause unsafe drivers to speed in lower speed areas,( construction zones, townships,
cities, lower speed highways) in order to make up time lost because they lost when they couldn't run the speed limit.Speed
limiters also cause congestion on our highways and bunch trucks together on the highway.Education and screening of driver hires is a better answer to safety, which csa is going to help immensely.I have never driven a speed limited truck until
6 months ago, and have driven commercial trucks for 25yrs,and have never had a speeding ticket nor seen any reason to drive over the speed limit.I know driver's,however, that drive speed limited trucks, and have numerous speeding citations within a 5 yr. period. If a driver is unsafe or has no
respect for the speed limit, putting a speed limiter on his/her
truck may slow them at times, but will not change their basic
behavior behind the wheel.Again,Education, and Training, and screening of potential hires are the better answer to the safety aspect of this problem.
