Speed limiters have been around for at least 50 years or more. They were called speed govenors! And they did'nt stop drivers from speeding or stop accidents from happening then and they will not now!! Accidents happen at all speeds! They even happen on back roads where there are no trucks present! Why?? Because people drive beyond their ability and the ability of their vehicle! It has nothing to do with how fast or slow their going. And why if you want safe highways would you single out the drivers your own studies have shown are the safest and restrict them? Why not single out the unsafest drivers! The only thing that speed limiters on trucks will do is create more traffic congestion and create more highway hazards. And there will be alot more road rage and unsafe driving by the general public around trucks which is exactly the oppisite of what you trying to acomplish! The safest roads are the ones where every vehicle is traveling at close to the same speed! If you require more information about this you can contact OOIDA, Owner Operator Independent Drivers Assn. or go to a truck stop and talk to the people that do this for a living, truck drivers!!
