I have been driving NEV (OKA NEV ZEV) since 2003 in Local City Traffic for daily
commuting, and the 25 MPH top speed is simply inconvenient, 30 MPH would be
nice and 35 MPH more than enough to keep up with traffic between red lights.
I believe that NHTSA should reconsider and establish classification for MSV,
especially since now 5 states have such a definition on State Level.
People should have the right to determine how much safety equipment they have
or want in their car, I have bought the NEV for daily commuting just because it
does not have any air bags, because I drive my daughter to school in it.
When compared to other cars I have, I save $3.00 to $5.00 daily on Gasoline,
while the NEV costs 12 to 18 cents to recharge at current rates.
People are not being prohibited from driving motorcycles in the name of "safety"
and they should not be prohibited from the option of having MSV for city driving.
I believe that 25 MPH limit is proper for golf cart like LSV, but not for a vehicle that
has other safety features like doors, bumpers and 3 point seatbelts.
Therefore I believe that definition of MSV for vehicles that are intended to be used
as "city" cars would be of public benefit, especially if they use non-polluting
propulsion like electric motor.
