Regarding: Docket No. NHTSA-2009-0154
RIN 2127-AK52
Dear Mr. Kratzke,
I hereby would like to ask for your support to implement a rule, which I strongly believe in. Too many injuries and fatalities occur in vehicles, simply because they do not have an "Auto Reversal System" feature, which is readily available for all vehicles with power windows.
I personnally had an incident, where the window closed on my throat and I remember that vividly. I do not have kids, but I do have a dog, of course she loves hanging her head out. I am always afraid that for some reason I do not pay attention, her head gets stuck and I could hurt her. I would love to drive an American vehicle, but decided on a German vehicle, because of all of their available safety features, which have been proven safe for many years.
NHTSA has issued the referenced NPRM as required by the “K.T. Safety Act of 2007”, regarding auto reversal systems for power windows. I understand that there is a review period, where you will consider comments about the proposed ruling.
Please re-consider the numbers of injuries being reported in your NPRM, since I believe those numbers are significantly understated and people are injured more frequently then the data might suggest.
Vehicles with the auto reversal systems clearly provide significantly higher safety than those without and it is unjust to rely on the operator to protect our children in vehicles.
I thereby ask you to fully implement the rule as proposed in the “K.T. Safety Act of 2007”, which would require ALL power windows to have auto reversal system, not just those which have the express up feature
Thank you for your time and efforts.
