I am in favor of requiring a pedestrian alert sound system for hybrid and electric vehicles. I've had several Prius', and I've experienced (usually in parking lots) people walking in the path of my vehicle not realizing the danger. I am also in favor of allowing the driver the capability of disabling the pedestrian alert sound system, such as the button provided in the 2011 Nissan Leaf. There are some situations where not having a sound emitted is advantageous, e.g. leaving the house early in the morning without waking others. I believe a reasonable compromise is to require the pedestrian alert sound system enabled every time the vehicle is started. The driver would be required to disable the system each and every time needed. Thank you for your consideration in this matter, ERIC VOLLNOGEL
