Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center - Comment

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-funded Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) program at the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center has conducted investigations of fatal truck tractor collisions since 2005. The fatality reports examine the pre-event, event, and post-event phases of the fatal collision and include prevention recommendations based on administrative, behavioral, and engineering controls for the reduction of injuries. The Kentucky FACE program currently has completed five truck tractor fatality reports that each contains a recommendation to require electronic stability systems installed as standard equipment when purchasing a truck tractor. Electronic stability-control systems have the possibility of reducing crashes and the Kentucky FACE program is promoting their inclusion as standard equipment on a truck tractor.
