A deeper look at the reports' main findings indicates that the option of lowering the height of LTVs to comply with EVC agreements has produced large improvements in car-occupants safety; whereas the option of adding a secondary structure to an LTV is linked to a negative outcome. However, these conclusions are confounded by other variables which are not included here. Additional work is recommended to clarify these effects and to clarify the next steps. As the US fleet changes in response to fuel efficiency needs, it is also desirable that crash compatibility be monitored and LTV compatibility test and validation data be published on frequent & regular basis.
