I am strongly opposed to the collection of this sort of data. It transcends the boundary between ensuring the safety of people riding in cars and performing an investigative function that is completely inappropriate. Additionally, the speculative safety benefits of such measures does not outweigh the privacy concerns raised with the collection of such data.
Furthermore, it is worrisome about who would have access to such data, ability to distribute the data and ability for destruction of the data. Therefore I would ask that the requirement that cars be equipped with event data recorders not be approved out of concerns about privacy.
