This is comment on Proposed Rule

Civil Penalties

View Comment

The intent of this correspondance is to relay my support for this rule change proposal. Traffic/vehicle safety is of great importance to our nation. The regulatory agencies of our federal government must maintain the ability to encourage the automobile indsurty to follow safety standards in the interest of all. If a civil penalty is going to be effective, it must have the weight to discourage unsafe practices on the part of industry and the weight to be punitve when necessary. Through inflation and other economic/social mechanisms, penalties may lose their effectiveness and weight over time. Review of the penalties and amendment of them as needed will help to maintain the weight of the penalties.
