These issues need to be addressed with AFRI grants. 1) AFRI is very heavily focused on research. Even the Federal Register announcement has little mention of Extension and education. There needs to be increased emphasis on Extension and education components to make sure these are not tacked on as an afterthought just to be eligible for funding. 2) There is still a need for NIFSI grants. These should be focused more on Extension and education. Extension and education programs do not always need to be tied to one research project. There needs to be funding for such programs.
