The establishment of marine reserves for coral recovery is an excellent
initiative. As someone who spends roughly 4-weeks a year near the proposed USVI
sites, I support it wholeheartedly.
There is strong pressure in St. Croix to allow destructive fishing practices by
a very small number of citizens to continue. Poorly managed sewage on the island
threatens water quality, as does out of control development on St. John & St.
Thomas.
These are short-sighted policies that should be fought strongly to preserve the
coral reefs & their fish & marine reptile populations, whose continued existence
is the only real economic future for the islands.
