Due to the known impact of sedimentation on Acropora Corals, I would like to
suggest:
1) Watersheds that affect significant Acropora populations, be identified
2) That all projects that generate runoff within the watersheds that affect
areas populated by the
species, be required a Environmental Impact Statement and sedimentation ponds
and strict monitoring of runoff.
3) That the Tres Palmas Marine Preserve, which holds one of the healthiest
Acropora populations in Puerto Rico be included in the maps, and that the
watershed that impacts it, be specially regulated .
That all projects that require fill within 50 meters of any creek, water runoff
or coast within the watershed require a Corps Of Engineers permit with a
National Marine Fisheries endorsement.
That the NMF sponsor ocean dynamic studies in areas with significant species
populations to better understand the recuisits for granting of permits in these
areas.
