Pacific Halibut Fisheries; Catch Sharing Plan

View Comment

I run a Halibut Charter out of Valdez Alaska. Bottom line if commercial IFQ is not cut in half this year The Halibut fishery will be ruined for years to come. I've watch the steady decline of Halibut stocks since the IFQ came into effect in 1995. The comfish bunch screaming about us charter guys catching to many fish, is like Al Gore sreaming about globle warming and running around in a private jet. Remember THE COMMERCIALS CATCH 90% OF THE HALIBUT EACH YEAR AND WE CATCH 10%. Never in the history of mankind has sport fishing ruined a fishery, on the other hand every fishery on the planet that has been decimated has been done so by commercial fishing. All of these fisheries that have been decimated were being managed by some government agency at the time of their demise. Lets not repeat history. Steve Thurneau Harvest Charters Valdez Alaska
