comment on amendment 15B to the fishery management plan for the snapper-grouper
fishery of the south Atlantic region. Specifically the proposed prohibition of the sale of
snapper-grouper harvested under the recreational bag limits. Requiring a commercial
snapper-grouper permit to sell legally caught fish by fishermen with an RS endorsement
is, at best, an economic disaster for those of us without the federal snapper-grouper
vessel permit. The cost of obtaining said permit is obsurd, TWO current permits must
be purchased, at perhaps $12,000 each, and then an application along with a $50 fee
submitted - that is over $2400 for only one permit. The recovery period to gain back the
permit fees alone will be totally out of reality, and combined with other expenses more
than enough to put us right out of the fishing industry.
