this comment is about the proposed winter flounder clouse. i have fished for winter
flounders for more than 25 years off the nj coast. i have seen that the nmfs plans a
closure of the entire area begining may 1 2009 this is devistating for nj fishermen,
we cannot stand to lose this important income it will cost me directly 30 percent of
my income i have always folled the managment plans , as in mesh sizes, days at
sea, 20 day blocks, boatracs, and so on. i cant believe that we need a totol closer
we could stand a trip limit of 500 lbs per trip for the interim.this would allow us to
make a small living and prevent regulatory discards that the closure will create.
this plan will devastate both the ports of belford and point pleasant nj. i hope you
will read and understand our needs, there is nowhere for us to go in the area. if all
the boats shift the effort to something else then that wont handle the effort. dont
cause regulatory discards thanks roy diehl f/v donna lynn belford nj
