The management of our natural resources should be top priority to our government. Lowering the standards of the programs that maintain and gather valuable data about these natural resources is clearly unwise. The monitoring of the fishing industry by the fishing industry itself would be a blatant conflict of interest. Government decisions that are based on private commercial gain are, in my opinion, an example of what is wrong with our government. It would be a disservice to future generations to allow standards for any form of wildlife preservation or natural resource management to be lowered for the benefit of the few individuals in control of the industry.
