Comments: Atlantic Highly Migratory Species
Electronic Dealer Reporting Requirements
Our company, Southern Connection Seafood- 01439, is already reporting under the SAFIS system once each week. Swordfish and Atlantic shark proposed daily reporting is not only a terrible burden, but ridiculous. The company I manage would have to hire an additional employee, obtain a computer and subscribe to high speed internet, which incidentally cost $110.00 per month. Your average cost of internet is incorrect and flawed, as the SAFIS system will not run on anything but high speed internet. NMFS already has over-powered commercial watermen and dealers with great burdens. It is time to leave the system alone and let it work. NMFS does not need to keep hiring environmentalist to create jobs. We need to keep the watermen and dealers. Those are the real jobs.
