First, the total allocation for wreckfish of 235,000lbs is too low for the area covered. Second, the allocation of 95% for commercial fisheries and only 5% for recreational fisheries is absolutely absurd! If you are truly concerned about the future of the species of concern, your percentages should be reversed and allocate 90-95% to recreational fisheries. The season will be over for thousands of recreational fishermen within a few days with a total limit of only 11,750lbs! Protect the species and encourage recreational fisheries with reasonable daily catch limits, and step-down the commercial quota by reducing the commercial percentage by 20% for each of the next 5 years. Over 5 years, the total take will be reduced, recreational fishermen will be allowed to continue to fish keeping only the daily limit, and commercial fishermen will have time to get into another business while fish farming expands to fill the need for commercial sales.
