As I review the cod catch data I am surprised to see the recent approximately 40% take by recreational fishing. (approx 20% take home and 20% released @100% mortality) I have to wonder what the division of the take is between small party recreational fishing (4 passengers and less) and large commercial "deep sea" fishing boats. I would question if the large commercial charter boats take a significant portion of the total catch and also higher than average cause of mortality of undersize catch due to time out of water compared to smaller fishing vessels. I ask that accurate daily catch reports become mandatory for charter recreational vessels with capacity for over 10 passengers become part of the public reporting to allow a better understanding where the fish are going. In addition, I ask that ALL recreational fisherman be required each an individual salt water recreational license to include all who fish from charter boats.
