A majority of the ocean's fisheries are in peril at this time due to causes like over fishing, pollution and possibly climate change. There needs to be immediate action to restrict the fishing quotas to a more sustainable level. The North Atlantic cod fishery can be an example of how over fishing depleted fish stocks so badly that recovery could arguably take decades. Along with drastic quota cuts, there should be some ocean sanctuaries or fishing free zones to aid in tuna and other species recovery. To ignore the science and continue fishing Pacific Tuna at the current rate is unconscionable and will lead to the extinction of this iconic species.
