As a U.S. citizen and full-time permanent resident of St. Croix, I am in support of NOAA-NMFS-2013-3009, which sets size limits on Parrotfish caught in St. Croix waters. I am an avid snorkeler and have noticed a decline in the numbers of adult Parrotfish inhabiting the reefs surrounding the island of St. Croix. This legislation is needed to protect the fishery, as well as to protect a valuable resource, as Parrotfish are not only beautiful, but they create sand for our beaches by ingesting hard corals and excreting sand particles. Local fishermen have given input regarding the issue and are in support of the measure because it came out of a democratic process in which they were included.
Thank you for soliciting public input regarding this important matter.
