As a US citizen of voting age, I urge to reconsider your plans to subject our marine life to the US Navy's war games. The navy does not have a sufficient plan in place to mitigate the damaging effects of the military exercises on our sea life. I stand firmly against this request.
The United States should be the world leader as a protector of the environment and defender of our marine mammals. Instead, we consider things like this ridiculous plan. It is very disappointing.
The Navy’s mid-frequency sonar has been implicated in mass strandings of whales and dolphins across the globe. In 2000, 14 beaked whales and several other marine mammals stranded themselves in the Bahamas in response to U.S. Navy vessels operating offshore mid-frequency sonar. Further investigations revealed bleeding around the whale’s ears and brains.
Marine mammals like whales and dolphins, will also suffer millions of instances of temporary hearing loss, which could result in confusion and distress for those in areas where exercises are allowed to occur.
