The Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary has shown itself an excellent steward of the shipwreck heritage artifacts within its current boundaries and has conducted outstanding education and outreach programs for the benefit of our community. It has also lead the way with many improvements along the riverfront and greatly enhanced the economy of the town by attracting visitors and professionals to carry out research projects. An entity that has done so much with what it has deserves the chance to take on more, which will extend the scope of its benefits to communities like Rogers City to the north and Harrisville to the south. It has proven to be a unifier of diverse interests and rallying force that spills over into other aspects of community improvement -- experiences that I would like to see our neighboring cities have.
