Though I am not in favor of any form of permit for beach access, the current proposal by NPS is not acceptable. With today's technology, any educational class could be completed on line, as well as the completion for any necessary permit application. To propose a Ranger taught class upon arrival and then securing the permit in person is unreasonable. It is unfair to require visitors to Hatteras Island to sacrifice any portion of their precious vacation time to meet such unreasonable requirements. The current proposal will only result in delays, crowds and lines and confusion. We can only hope that is not the intention of the NPS. On line access is the only acceptable means of completing any type of required course or permit application. On line access will also result in lower costs and less staffing requirements for NPS.
