We owned a business in Gallatin Gateway, MT for many years. Yellowstone Park is a place strongly fixed in our lives and hearts. Limiting snowmobiles in Yellowstone Park is an absolute MUST. There are plenty of places to snowmobile in Montana. The pristine qualities of the Park are an enormous value that once lost, will not be retrievable. The color and smell of the air when snowmobilers are screaming through the park is hard to describe unless you experience it. The pall of fumes which hang heavy makes my eyes water. The sounds are disruptive. "Shared use" is a misnomer. I can physically be in the same place, but every aspect of my experience is negatively impacted when snowmobilers have their way. My lungs are raw from fumes, my ears ring, and my anxiety levels rise. Snowmobilers don't hear me, and frequently, don't see me. But turn that around, and I know I don't impact their experience at all.
In closing, I again point out there are plenty of adjacent areas which are ideal for snowmobiling. But the Park itself should be protected from overexposure to snowmobiles.
