I am a frequent user of the Hope Camp Trail, using it primarily as a hiking trail to access the new Quilter Trail, Madrona Trail, Cowhead Saddle, and Douglas Springs Trail areas. I am also a big fan of the National Park Service.
I am NOT in favor of opening the Hope Camp Trail to bicycle use until such time as the trailhead parking area, which I understand is Pima County property, is improved to safely accomodate the additional parking without further damaging the surrounding natural resource.
Saguaron National Park already has an inadequate parking situation at the very popular Douglas Springs Trailhead located at the far eastern end of Speedway Boulevard, where Saguaro National Park users are forced to haphazardly park in an unimproved area along a Pima County road.
Until Saguaro National Park and Pima County can cooperatively provide properly designed and safe parking that protects that nearby natural areas, I am OPPOSED to any further trail usage such as by cyclists.
