Sope Creek area is perfect for mountain biking for the Atlanta Metro Area. There are a lot of people that live and ride around that area. With the Atlanta traffic you would see an increase in annual passes, if there was a better mountain biking trail for users. There are miles of trails out there to share with the hikers. Mountain Bikers through the Direction of IMBA/Sorba Atlanta has raised funds and put in the volunteer work to create new trails at Sope Creed that were in turn closed off for bikers to use. In what world does that make sense?
One NPS officer told me that "they" didn't like mountain bikers because they dont pay the fee to use the parks. I've had an annual pass now for almost 10 years and I'm know about 95% of the riders out there that ride with me have a pass as well.
The other comment is hikers (whom you don't see at these work parties with the bikers to maintain the trails) don't like the hikers and they have more money, with more of an influence on county officials. This could be hear say, but I have to admit it makes sense.
Do the right thing and allow mountian bikers to have a good 7-10 miles of trails out there. There must be another 20 miles for the hikers to have.
