I support the OFCCP's proposal to strengthen its regulations implementing Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act. it is vital for the regulations to recognize the disproportionate barriers to employment regarding certain types of disabilities and to set a separate goal to ensure that contractors are employing people with these types of disabilities. There are certain types of disabilities that are being overlooked by employers/contractors when it comes to employing people with disabilities. Unfortunately, barriers due to policies and procedures, stereotypes and lack of employer/community education, on the benefits of hiring people with disabilities has had a great impact on employing individuals with certain types of disabilities. Through proper and effective regulations by the OFCCP, such barriers can be removed, in order to maximize the benefits that individuals with disabilities can have on the growth and production of a growing and economy and forever changing society. As an advocate / Employment Consultant for over 20 years with personal / siblings ties with individuals disabilities, I can say that there has been some changes with the flight of individuals with disabilities. However, there is still an enormous gap between the employment of those with and without disabilities, that needs to be addressed and changed. As stated in the United States Declaration of Independence "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness", which are three aspects of "unalienable rights" of man. Let (U.S.) continue to uphold that truth about America for All people with disabilities and non-disabilities. As we continue to add to map of Working in America, one of those pieces to such a puzzle should continue to come from the OFCCP. In closing, thank you for what you've done, and look forward to what's to come from you.
