When I turned age 60, I was given a leave of absence until the law was changed. I asked Chautauqua Airlines who was my employer at the time for another job such as ground trainer or ferry pilot while this happened. I was totally unaware of the requirement for my employer to give me a chance at another job since I am a Vietnam era veteran. So since this fact was HIDDEN from me, I had NO idea of my rights at all.
It was only later that I discovered that I was entitled to such jobs and should have been offered one. When the law was changed and forbid people such as myself to return to the airline, I was immediately taken off the seniority list. Again with NO mention of another job being available. I was further outraged to learn that another NON-Veteran who had turned 60 just before the law was changed, was given a job flying our aircraft on deadhead flights. I think this is outrageous that the law is routinely violated and we are forbidden to file a complaint if we do not meet the 180 day deadline without any idea of this law or even its provisions.
Once again vets get screwed. THANKS FOR NOTHING!
