I have conducted the respirator fit testing process for over 15 years using the saccharin solution. It has been my experience that it can take the entire testing time for the solution to become noticeable to some people. I have noticed that smokers will have dulled senses and thus not be as able to detect a leak with certainty until they have been subjected to the solution for the duration of the test. While some people may find that they notice the leak instantly, others take considerably longer. I would recommend that this process not be shortened in order to offer maximum protection to all employees. Steven T. Savon, Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc.
