I run a small business that has earned SHARP recognition. OSHA Consultation provided significant support to my company through the SHARP approval process. The proposed changes to consultation visits no longer limiting imiting OSHA visits to an organization will defete the purpose of the program. In addition, our consultant had the athority to identify violations and if serious, required correction or OSHA would be called in. If the purpose of OSHA is really the protection of employee safety and health, it makes no sense to eliminate the most proactive countermeasure you have for those companies that have a desire to improve. Consultation is not a liscense to misbehave, conseal and avoid meeting the requirements of the law, it is a for those companies that want to change. If anything, insure that OSHA consulants are properly identifying serious conditions and requiring them to be corrected. The system, while not perfect, can certainly look to those not documenting their desire to improve before they diiminish a very effective program for improving industrial safety and health.
