As NFPA Certificated Marine Chemists who have served the marine and ship repair industry in
Washington and Alaska for over 35 years performing gas-free inspections, safety training, and
serving as liaisons between the marine industry and the local Fire Departments and OSHA Area
Offices:
We would like to ask for a minimum of 90 days extension of the public comment period beyond
the March 19, 2008 deadline.
The businesses relating to shipyard employment in Washington and Alaska are geographically
scattered widely and the initial 90 day comment period falls on one of the most busy periods for
our industry. We need to have extra time to get the Proposed Rule out to as many parties
involved as possible and allow them time to submit their comments back to you.
We believe that the Proposed Rule: General Working Conditions in Shipyard Employment has
sound intentions but our industry needs extra time to carefully review the many details and make
the appropriate comments and suggestions.
Respectfully submitted,
Philip Dovinh
