The ecological impact of mountaintop removal vastly outweighs the economic
benefit seen by only a small number of corporations. This type of mining reduces
biodiversity, generates a large amount of waste, and increases erosion. In many
cases, reclamation of the mining site does not focus on reforestation, causing
further erosion and flooding. I am strongly against allowing this type of mining
in any form. Time and money is better spent investigating renewable,
non-invasive energy sources.
