Refer to pages 16-19 of the 2008 ERG. These pages are the Table of Placards and Initial Response Guide to Use On-Scene, Rail Car Identification Chart and Road Trailer Identification Chart. These all refer the user to a ERG Guide number in a circle above each silhouette. To make the ERG more consistent the circles should be filled with orange background which will improve consistency and it should be coupled with an additional highlighted verbiage to identify that this is an on-scene short cut for identification. This will make this little known means of identification to become more powerful tool. It can be compared to the change in the 2008 ERG where the highlighted chemicals that are highlighted in the yellow and blue section were changed to a green highlight to improve overall continuity and consistency.
