The Rural Microentrepeneur Assistance Program comes at a time when there are so many of us in dire need. Speaking as a single woman over 55, there is not enough assistance out there for us when we become unemployed. Additional programs like RMAP with less restrictions and addressing the needs of those with voices that sometimes go unheard is necessary. If we could establish a protocol of "people helping people" rather than addressing specific target agencies, I feel there would be a greater good for our communities. So many of us have struggled all our lives just to raise our families, we do not have the resources or the "formal" educations behind us to sketch out a living for ourselves. We who are at or close to retirement age with no retirement and little if any social security to help us in our advanced years, need some sort of hope/help to keep us going financially as well as emotionally. We are not used to "handouts" that is why a program that can reward us or give us an "arm up" to get ourselves self sufficient while helping others would be the ultimate gift the goverment could give us back for our loyalty and hard work.
