To whom it may concern,I would like to address this summit on Rita2009-0003 dealing with distracted drivers. I have been driving semi's for 12 years now and have seen my share of distracted drivers, they range from truckers to the normal passenger car driver to even the law enforcement themselves. It is my concern that with this regulation coming into factor that it will be yet another cash cow for the states to use against all truckers while letting the passenger car drivers and the law enforcement officers that violate the law (if passed) alone... I have seen alot of regulations come out in the " name of safety" only to be used to drum up revenue from truckers... we do drive large vehicles and hold a license that says we are professionals but it doesn't mean we have money coming from everywhere. What I would like to see out of this summit is a fair and just law not something that is driven by political BS folks you all are there to represent us so start doing it... listen to all people not just the ones with the most money... because we drivers out here that have to deal with the distracted drivers everyday can tell you some real horror stories... Of people putting on makeup, reading papers or books and even law enforcement going by typing on their computers in the cars... If you want some true opinions about what this bill should pay attention to you defenately need reps from the trucking industry to be at this summit as well... Because it is the American truck driver that has to deal with all the inexperienced and road raged drivers out here... So for a law to be just and represent the safety for everyone this is my opinion of what needs to happen... Get the information from the trench not from the desk... you want to know what you are looking at then by all means ask a trucker or come see for yourself.... Thank you for your time and consideration Sincerely Mark Strange A driver that thinks he can make a difference
