I agree with the goal of updating the size standards for small businesses, especially in the professional services sector. In our industry, Architectural services, technological advances and increased liability exposure have caused both costs and income per full time equivalent employee to increase. This has occured while the average work volume has decreased due to the current recession.
Raising the defined limit of recognition of Small Firm status, however has both postitive and negative effects.
On the positive side, with raised limits, more firms will have access to set-aside programs and contract opportunities.
On the negative side, with more firms in the Small Firm category, there will be much more competition for contract opportunities - which are fewer now due to the recession and fewer government contracts.
