Attached are the comments of the International Hearing Society (IHS), which
represents the nation's 10,000 hearing aid specialists. Hearing aid specialists are
health care professionals licensed by the states specifically to provide services for
the hearing impaired and their families, including audiometric testing. IHS
respectfully requests the inclusion of hearing aid specialists among those
providers eligible to provide the required audiometric testing for purposes of
evaluating adult disability claims involving hearing loss. Inclusion of hearing aid
specialists as providers of audiometric testing is warranted because the tests
required by the Social Security Administration are all routinely administered by
hearing aid specialists.
